When I was young, my father taught me a Chinese proverb about finding strength in numbers. That a single straw is weak but with when combined with others, it is strong. Inspired by Ai Wei Wei's "Sunflower Seeds" and it's expression of the power of the collective, this piece is a sculptural metaphor for what we can achieve if we choose to work together.
It is composed of 3 varying lengths of dowel and a single plank of wood, holding itself together using it's own friction and weight. The end result is a balancing act that requires each member's participation, bending ever so slightly to adjust to each new visitor's mass.
